This week, we’re focusing on the fruits of the Holy Spirit and praying each one over our unborn babies. I hope it encourages you today!
Week 11: The Gift of the Holy Spirit
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. John 16:8
Pray that God would start a good work in your baby from an early age leading to repentance. Jesus said that He was sending the Holy Spirit to us to help us and comfort us, His children, while we serve Him on this earth. Pray that God would teach you and give you strength and that you and your family would be led by the Spirit so that your child can see Jesus in you.
Week 12: Love
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8
Ask God to soften your heart to love. To love Him above all else, to love others, to love your enemies, to love your child or children. Pray that He would soften your baby’s heart to love as He loves. Our children learn how to love by watching your actions and words. Ask God to give you what you need to truly be a loving mother and parent.
Week 13: Joy
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11
Joy is something found only through Jesus Christ. God’s Word says that there is fullness of joy in the presence of the Lord. Pray that God would bless your baby to enjoy and bask in His presence as she grows up. Make it a priority in your own life to be in God’s presence. Thank Him that He is available to us through the amazing sacrifice that Jesus did for us. Ask Him to show you how to best lead your child into His presence as you care for her daily.
Week 14: Peace
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
The promises that Jesus makes to us never fail. They always come about. Jesus tells us in His Word that He leaves us His peace, through the Holy Spirit. What a gift! In this world that seems to keep getting more and more scary, we can have peace. Pray that God would give your baby a peace that surpasses all understanding as he grows. Ask Him to let your mind be stayed on Him as you mother your child in a fallen world. Ask Him to wrap you in His peace as you walk through trials and celebrations.
Week 15: Patience
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Psalm 37:7
I’ve known many moms and have talked to a lot of them lately and they all seem to say the same thing… keep your patience. Kids are naturally needy so the need for patience as parents is vital. Only God can provide a joyful patience to us. Ask Him to give you patience as you learn and parent your child. Ask Him to fill your child with a patience for others that is undeniable. Pray that your heart would be slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
Week 16: Kindness
The Lord is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His works. Psalm 145:17
Kindness is such an awesome practical way to show God’s love to your children and others. Ask God to give you a heart of kindness. Ask Him to bless your baby with a heart full of kindness, for a desire to love others at a young age. Ask Him to reveal ways to you to show kindness to your sweet baby while she grows.
Week 17: Goodness
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Psalm 27:13
Our “goodness” isn’t reliant on the things that we do. It’s the Holy Spirit that makes us “good”. I wish I would of known this growing up. I always thought that I had to earn God’s love by doing good deeds. But we can’t earn our salvation. Believing that gives us freedom. I want my children to grow up knowing that they don’t have to strive and work for God to love them. Pray that God would open their heart to this truth so that they don’t have to waste their lives striving to “be good”. The only good in us is Jesus!
Week 18: Faithfulness
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much; and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in the much. Luke 16:10
I want to be faithful in raising my children to love and serve the Lord. Because He is worthy. And He is so good to us. I want to be faithful in my marriage and faithful in my relationship with Jesus. Ask God to give you the power to remain faithful, through daily seeking Him and His word. Being a parent takes much diligence and faithfulness and unlike any other job, we can’t quit being a mom. And God is able to give us everything we need to be a faithful servant leader and mom!
Week 19: Gentleness
Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5
God’s character is so amazing. He is a strong warrior who has defeated death and He reigns over every living thing on earth, under the earth, and in Heaven. He is also gentle. How amazing is that? Ask God to give you a heart of gentleness and meekness. This is the one thing I love most about my mom, she is so gentle. I hope to be the same gentle, meek, and tender mom like she is!
Week 20: Self Control
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 timothy 1:7
Ask God to give you self control over your temper, attitude, words, actions, and ways you parent! God cares and works for us in every aspect of life and He doesn’t want us to keep anything from Him. The Holy Spirit can thoroughly equip you for your own exhausting and joyful journey as a mom!
I hope that these verses and prayer prompts have encouraged you to seek God as you prepare to be a mom to a new little life! Next week, prayers 21-30 will be live. Don’t forget to stop back by then and if didn’t get the chance to read week one of pregnancy prayers, get caught up here!
